比(bĭ)
Specific comparisons of two entries is usually expressed with the basic pattern A + 比 + B + Adj.
Ex) 今天比昨天冷。(Today is colder than yesterday.)
The basic comparative structure may be further modified by adding a modifying expression after the adjective: A + 比 + Adj + 一点儿/得多/多了.
Ex) 今天比昨天冷一点。(Today is a bit colder than yesterday.)
今天比作天冷得多。(Today is much colder than yesterday.)
今天比昨天冷多了。(Today is much colder than yesterday.)
The basic comparative structure can also be modified by adding the adverb 更 or the adverb 还 in front of the adjective: A + 比 + B + 更/还 + Adj.
Ex) 今天比昨天更冷。(Today is even colder than yesterday.)
今天比昨天还冷。(Today is even colder than yesterday.)
跟 and 和 can be used in another type of comparative sentence: A 跟/和 B + 一样 + Adj. However, unlike a comparative sentence with 比, a comparative sentence with 跟 or 和 indicates that the two things or persons exhibit the same degree of an attribute.
Ex) 今天和昨天一样冷。(Today is as cold as yesterday.)
今天跟昨天一样冷。(Today is as cold as yesterday.)
