点儿(diănr)
Following a verb, both 点儿 and 一下 can soften the tone in a question or an imperative sentence, therefore making it more polite. When used in this way, 点儿 modifies the object, while 一下 modifies the verb.
Ex) 你想吃点儿什么?
The phrase 有一点儿 precedes adjectives or verbs. It often carries a negative tone. The 一 in the phrase is optional.
Ex) 我觉得中文有一点儿难。
However, when the sentence suggests a change of situation, the phrase 有一点儿 can carry a positive tone.
Ex) 我以前不喜欢他,现在有点儿喜欢他了。
Take care not to confuse 有一点儿, which is an adverbial used to modify adjectives, with 一点儿, which usually modifies nouns.
The expression (一)点儿 can be placed after an adjective to indicate slight qualification. 一 is optional.
